ITIL or Information Technology Infrastructure Library is a framework of best-practices explicitly designed for IT service management (ITSM). Although, this set of best practices can be incorporated and be beneficial to all business models.
ITIL provides guidance as to how the service provider can create more value for its own business and its customers. It is not a set of rules or standards that must be followed but a framework to be customized to best suit your business needs.
The ITIL framework is based on the five stages of the lifecycle as shown in the chart above.
The five lifecycle stages are:
Continual Service Improvement
The ITIL framework is always moving and improving. Service Strategy is at the center with Service Design, Transition, and Operation surrounding it. The Continual Service Improvement lifecycle surrounds and supports all stages of the lifecycle. This is very important because as a business you should always be looking for ways to improve your business model to increase the value both to yourself and your customers.
